Durham Coffee and Life Kombucha In Store!

Now in store we have two new products from local businesses - Durham Coffee and Life Kombucha!

Durham Coffee

Durham Coffee are a family business with a passion for coffee and a love for Durham and the Northeast, offering ethically sourced speciality coffee with a local twist. Father and daughter duo Bernhard and Carina have worked in the coffee industry for many years, establishing Kaffehaus Amadeus in Lanchester, as well as training and teaching others about speciality coffee. All the coffee is sourced from a sustainable supply chain which can be traced back directly to the coffee farm. Their suppliers work in close partnership with the farmers to ensure highest quality, sustainability, and fair prices, which leads to long-term relationships helping coffee farmers to build sustainable businesses. 

In store we currently have four products from the Durham Heritage Range.

Miner's Gala (100g) - Brown sugar, maple syrup, creamy

'The Miner's gala celebrates Durham's rich mining heritage. We imagine families living with plenty of hardship but also close-knit communities sharing a common purpose and looking out for each other. We intended to create a coffee that can be enjoyed by everybody all day long, a coffee for a whole community gathered round, hugging a cuppa and taking in the wonderful aromatic smell. Our Miner's Gala is a smooth Brazilian bean, medium roast, well rounded with a pleasant sweetness, a coffee that will appeal to most people.'

Finchale Priory (Decaf) (100g) - Smooth, nutty, toffee apple

'Finchale Priory used to be a place for the monks of Durham Cathedral, a space to unwind and retreat. To connect our decaf coffee with Finchale Priory reminds us of retreating, unwinding and simply 'being' - without the need of caffeine. Naturally decaffeinated, our Finchale Priory is a wonderful full bodied Columbian coffee with smooth nutty notes. It works well for all brewing methods, from espresso to filter, so everyone can take a moment to pause, unwind and live with all their senses.' 

Peru (100g) - Juicy gooseberries with hints of hazelnut

'Introducing our Limited Edition Charity Coffee - a certified organic coffee from Peru. We have roasted this delicious bean to bring out its sweet and fruity profile. With notes of juicy gooseberries and hints of hazelnut this coffee is a lovely extremely clean cup. By buying a Limited Edition Charity Coffee you will be supporting our community as 20% of each bag sold will be donated to a local charity. Being able to give back to our local community is very important to us and the sales of this Peruvian coffee will be supporting the St. Cuthbert's Hospice in Durham. 

Life Kombucha

Life Kombucha is brought to you by the master brewer's family in Hong Kong which has been passed down by her grandparents. The three generation old recipe consists of a blend of a special tea that gives the Kombucha that subtle honey-like flavour. It also creates a fine balance of sweetness and mouth-watering tartness. All of their teas are brewed with high-quality water form the North East and fermented with fresh local produce. 'Life Kombucha is not only celebrating our Asian heritage, but it is full of Northern soul!'

'We follow a strict tea brewing principle and our teas are never diluted. We then add the SCOBY (Symbiotic Culture of Bacteria and Yeast) into the sweetened tea, which is the soul of Kombucha. It holds all of the essential healthy bacteria which in turn aids the fermentation process which gives Kombucha its unique taste. We really care about our SCOBY and we pay extra attention to monitor growth and health. We monitor our SCOBY's performance closely and make sure your Kombucha tastes fresh and naturally fizzy. And finally, the brewing jars Life Kombucha is fermented in are sanitised thoroughly before every brew, ensuring a perfect batch every time. 

Our tea leaves are sourced from a well-established family farm overseas. We have bypassed the need to go through a tedious chain of third party sellers and agencies, and instead are able to pay the family fairly and ethically for their hard work. We chose to work with them based on their life long devotion towards tea framing. From hand-picking the highest quality tea leaves, to their intensive sun-drying and semi-ferment process used to create our special tea blend. They handle every process with care, just like us.' In store with us we now have four of Life Kombucha's products.

Mixed Berries Black Pepper Kombucha (330ml)

The Mixed Berries Black Pepper kombucha is fermented with crushed raspberries and blueberries, infused with fresh cracked black pepper for a kick of spicy sense. 

Apple Lemon Ginger Kombucha (330ml)

The Apple Lemon Ginger kombucha is fermented with slow-pressed crisp apples, lemons, and infused with sliced ginger. 

Christmas Special Yuzu and Plum Kombucha (330ml)

The Christmas Yuzu and Plum kombucha is brewed with high-quality semi-fermented green tea and flavoured with Korean Yuzu juice, pasteurised plum juice, and grounded cinnamon. 

Jasmine Green Tea Kombucha (330ml)

The Jasmine Green Tea kombucha is brewed with high-quality semi-fermented green tea and blended with Jasmine florets.
